A Troubled Child in Guatemala:

Prior to Kabrera moving to Guatemala at the age of nine, he had faced numerous challenges. He was troubled and frequently getting kicked out of schools, he found solace in the care of remarkable women who owned a restaurant. Reflecting on this period, he expresses gratitude for their influence, saying, "I had a lot of encouragement and a lot of discipline from some really powerful women in my life."

The American Dream:

At the age of eleven, Kabrera's family relocated to California with hopes of realizing the American Dream. Inspired by his hardworking and mathematically gifted mother, who taught students accelerated math, he absorbed valuable life lessons. "My mother was such a smart woman and definitely implemented a lot of discipline in me by her example," he recalls. The exposure to his mother's tutoring classes and her work ethic instilled in him a sense of purpose and the drive to excel.

Learning From The Best:

His mother initially faced financial hardships when she first arrived in the United States and was working to get established and on her feet. This caused them to experience homelessness, then living in a shelter and later Section 8 housing assistance. However, his mother's resilience and determination drove them to strive for a better life. Kabrera shares, "My mom focused immediately on getting a job and pulling us out of that—she did it in a year and a half." Through hard work and perseverance, they gradually progressed from an apartment to owning a house, a testament to her steadfast spirit.

Altering Life's Perspective Through a Near-Death Experience:

Life took an unexpected turn when Kabrera faced severe health challenges, including a bone infection and multiple surgeries. Recounting a near-death experience, he shares, "After that, it made me think, 'Well, if I've already died, everything from now on is bound to be a step up.'" This profound realization fueled his determination to embrace life fully and seize every opportunity that came his way.

Kabrera's passion for cuisine and travel led him to establish Rio, a restaurant and catering company that celebrates International Latin American cuisine. Inspired by his love for cooking and desire to give back to the community, Kabrera explains, "When you're someone in tough times, those little gifts, like a good meal, make a big difference. I want to share that with the community." Through Rio, he aims to create memorable experiences centered around food, dance, and music.

Recently, he introduced his latest venture, Rio Bowl Stop, a fast food franchise restaurant that showcases a delectable range of international Latin cuisine. Rio Bowl Stop offers a variety of mouthwatering dishes, featuring succulent protein options with phenomenal flavors inspired by some of the most desirable food destinations around the world.

The development of Rio Bowl Stop took Kabrera 12 years of dedicated effort. The first of many locations to come was opened in Valencia, CA in May 2023, marking the beginning of a journey to bring the flavors of international Latin cuisine to a wider audience.

He states, "If you do whatever you like to do and do it well, somebody's going to pay your worth."
